Chinese Stress Balls
|
Chinese Stress Balls are metal balls you hold in your hand and rotate them with your fingers around each other. They were once made of solid iron and called Chinese Iron Balls. Nowadays, the balls are hollow and made of metal such as chrome, brass, or stainless steel with chimes inside. Small beds hit a turning plate inside the ball creating the relaxing tones. One ball produces a high tone and the other a low tone. The Chinese Stress Balls reduce stress by:
- Enhancing the flow of Qi through your body
- Relaxing you with calming rhythmic sounds and chimes
- Channeling stressful energy into healthy energy through exercise
Rotating the balls reduces your stress because the it circulates the energy in your body called Qi. The Chinese believe Qi flows through your body through a network of channels. These channels have certain acupuncture points, many of which are located in your hands. The balls press on the acupuncture points maintaining a free flow of Qi throughout your body.
The chiming of the balls while you rotate them is a soothing relaxing sound to help you meditate and reduce stress. Of course, as a beginner, it will take some practice to be able to rotate the balls smoothly. If you do not like balls that make sound, there are also chinese stress balls made of jade, wood, marble, and other solid materials.
As an exercise, they keep your fingers and joints nimble and healthy. Balls come in varying sizes so you can do exercises that improve coordination or exercises that stretch the fingers.
In addition to reducing stress, they can:
- Stimulate circulation and relax your muscles
- Improve memory and prevent hypertension and arthritis
- Improve concentration and dexterity
You can use them almost anywhere. Use them while taking a walk, watching tv, while meditating, or while reading a book. You can buy them in Asian gift or Chinese health stores. Other names for these balls are meditation balls, Chinese exercise balls, Chinese health balls, relaxation balls, melody balls, Chinese therapy balls, worry balls, qigong balls, iron balls, miracle balls, reflex balls, chiming balls, and Baoding balls.
